The Tampa Bay Lightning are not only one of the most elite teams in the league, but they’re also one of the most beloved. From the home-grown fans, the Thunder, to the never-ending swarm of transplants moving to the Bay, the team has garnered tremendous support all throughout the city. But we knew it stretched far beyond the borders of Florida. And so an idea was born: the Distant Thunder, fans all over the globe who have chosen to claim the Tampa Bay Lightning as their team. From streaming games at odd hours to passing down paraphernalia for generations, these fans prove that distance is no barrier for their true-blue loyalty. Our team sought to highlight these global fans through a series of Emmy award-winning, documentary-style videos. Over the last decade, we’ve traveled to England, Colombia, Argentina, Croatia, Australia, Japan, and many other destinations to connect with the Distant Thunder. The Distant Thunder became such a phenomenon, we crafted a connective, digital hub to encourage fans to build their global community. These are their stories.
