Stitches of Duty — Veterans Bring Home More Than Just Gear

Veterans often return home to find a more difficult war than the one they left behind: the battle against loneliness, anxiety, depression and suicide. We wanted veterans to join forces once again in their fight against these elusive, shared enemies, so we gathered the gear they had worn while in service in combat zones – uniforms, patches, tents – and stitched it together into a billboard stationed outside of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.

The project brought together the gear and stories of both those who struggle every day, as well as those who are no longer here with us. Their interviews shed light on the experiences behind the gear they donated, and their brave stories let every vet know we are all in this together. The goal is to generate more awareness of the My Florida Vet support numbers and bring veterans together to help heal.
