How did we end up winning a Clio this year? You could say it was a perfect storm. It’s what happens when all the elements–the right client, the perfect canvas, a great idea, and some seriously talented creative folks–come together to form a whirlwind of an ad. When our client, the Tampa Bay Lightning, told us that they’d support purchasing 2 traditional billboards on either side of a major thoroughfare in Tampa if we could make the boards work together, we got excited. After much searching, we found an image of a player taking the perfect slap shot. One that would send a puck sailing across the highway where it would wreak havoc and eventually come to rest on the billboard of a local gym. Except that local gym didn’t really exist and the URL on the board led curious visitors to a page on which they could purchase 20-game flex packages. Clever. Cool. Beautiful. Clio-worthy.
The boards got attention around town and in the social media universe. They got people excited for what would prove to be a thrilling hockey season. And, they got us a Clio.
