A Shout Out to Adam Larson

We love good creative work. And when we recognize it in the world in which we live, we applaud it, and as creative people are often inspired by it. However, in our industry, it’s important to be careful not to let inspirational subject matter influence too closely the new work we make, so that there is no confusion as to authorship.

Recently, Dunn&Co fell victim to doing just that and I wanted to address it. We created a one-off poster series as a gift for one person at one of our clients, the Lightning, for the purpose of decorating a single office space. In doing so, our Creatives were inspired by an amazing design from Adam Larson of Adam&Co, and in fact ended up creating posters that resembled Adam’s work far too closely. Even though our work product was never intended for mass consumption, it should not have mirrored Adam’s work as closely as it did. We went too far.

Adam and I have spoken and he knows the back-story, but I still wanted to publicly apologize to Adam for this misstep. Dunn&Co is known for integrity and creativity and this single incident should not go by unaddressed. It won’t happen again. – Troy Dunn
