Each month, different members of our Tampa-based Dunn&Co. team work from our London office. Art Director Mitchell Goodrich was the latest to venture across the Atlantic. Read what he had to say about his time there:
TO DO LIST
9 AM to 2 PM:
Get those revisions done.
2 PM to 3 PM:
Take a quick walk with your co-workers down to Kingston’s Ancient Market to grab a £4 Beef Bulgogi, £5 Katsu Curry, £5 Bahn Mi, £4 Pork Arepa, or a £5 Chorizo Burger and Fries, before browsing Banquet Records on your stroll back to the office. (Contrary to popular opinion, London is pretty inexpensive, so long as you’re not eating Bao in Soho every night.)
3 PM to 6 PM:
Jump on some Skype calls and prep files for Monday morning.
6PM to 1AM:
Spot Boris Johnson on your way into the ICA. Buy a G&T to sip before you stare down the Ardabil Carpet at the V&A late night. Grab an iron age pig hotdog at Hand of Glory, with a Five Points Porter to wash it down. Dance your legs off at the Confidence Man show in the sold out, glitter-gilded MOTH Club. Stop in at the neighborhood BP for an organic mexican three-bean quinoa salad and say no when the cashier asks if you need petrol with that.
The Weekend:
Wake up early enough to get a bun at Fabrique Bakery before the day truly starts. Take a short train ride to Brussels or Paris. Gawk at works by Emin, Turner, Bourgeois, Ofili, Léger, Nauman, Vandenbroucke, and others at the Tate, MIMA, Courtauld, Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, White Cube, or others. See a new indie at East End Film Fest, an old Godard in the backroom of Close-Up, or a forgotten Palme winner at BFI. Spend the most money of your trip in a single setting at ELCAF on risos, zines, screen prints, totes bags, and massive graphic novels. Eat duck fat fries for lunch, dinner, or whatever meal you’re on and order a few beers at Delirium Café. Remember America exists while watching Space Lady jam on a Casio at Cafe Oto. Close out the night dancing to a two hour Soccer96 set in a basement venue called Birthdays or at the Out Loud party on Beursschouwburg’s rooftop overlooking downtown Brussels. Sneak in the house, careful not to wake your awesome, accommodating hosts who have been gracious enough to welcome you into their home.
Monday:
Repeat.
